Please don't think that slow updating means something is wrong - I was just waiting for one big thing to happen because I knew it was close.
Dylan is 3 pounds!
The nurses say getting to 3 takes the longest and I'm so happy we're here!
But that's not the only great thing that has happened since the last post - Dylan had has picc line taken out! He's had it since birth and he got all of his iv fluids and medications through it. He doesn't need it anymore because he's getting full feeds, 25mls of breast milk every 3 hours. It's even being fortified to get him more calories. Currently he's getting 22 extra.
He's been successfully weaning on the oxygen too. Last night he was turned down to 3 liters at 21%. One day he'll be free of the cannula too...
Our biggest issues right now are bradys (where his heart rate drops) and reflux. He's taking Prilosec for the reflex and it seems I be helping the bradys too. Both are very normal.
We've also started to practice breast feeding. They call it "dry" breast feeding since he's not eating anything, but he's doing really well! He will be seen by an occupational therapist soon to evaluate his ability to bottle feed and then we will start rotating bottles in as he can handle it.
Oh - his eye test was perfect too which is huge! It would have been more likely for them to see a problem. He will get checked again, but it looks like we've dodged a really common cause for surgery.
Im updating from my phone, so no pics today (I hope the formatting isn't too terrible!), but I'll post them soon.
That all sounds great! So glad he's doing so well!

ReplyDeleteOur boys seem pretty close to the same page aside from age and weight :). Mine are still bradying with feeds due to reflux they are thinking. Not on meds yet, but they are doing restricted feeds and fortifying up to 24 calories now. SO glad to hear Dylan is doing well.
