It's still all about eating...

I'll just do a quick post since it's been over a week.

Dylan's best: 48 mls

We switched Dylan's feedings to every 4 hours from every 3 to try to get him hungrier so he will take a bottle better.  We also switched the type of fortifier, took him off caffeine and switched from Prilosec to Prevacid to control his reflux.  We keep switching between the low flow, medium and normal flow nipples.

Nothing in particular seems to be making a big difference, but everyone at the hospital is on the case!

Dylan has taken 40 or more about 6 or 7 times in the last week which is a great improvement.  I'd say his average is about 25, but we still have 10's and two days ago he would only take 2!  That basically means the bottle dripped out 2 over a half an hour and he refused to suck or swallow.

This part of the process is extremely frustrating.  He knows how to eat, he just won't do it consistently.  He literally pushes the bottle out of his mouth with his tongue, keeps his mouth sealed shut, or locks his tongue to the roof of his mouth when he's not in the mood.  Other times he sucks vigorously like he should.

So I do not know when he will go home.  And to be completely honest, it kind of bugs me when people ask.  Actually it drives me nuts because I'd love to have an answer.  I just don't.

In other news...Dylan loved his bath the other day and it was a nice fun distractions from feeding for me!

And he's 6 pounds, 14 ounces!

  1. I just want to say that your gentleness and patience is amazing, Sarah. No one would know by watching you feed Dylan that his very long feedings are anything but normal. You are such a good mom.

  9. Omg isn't it ridiculous how stubborn and opinionated they can be when they don't want to eat? Goodness! It is an extremely frustrating part of the journey. We are constantly thinking about you guys and hoping for that lightbulb to go on for Dylan soon! In other news, holy moly is he cute...and huge! Go Dylan go!
