Sorry it's been so long I've updated. I put too much pressure on myself by announcing a "special" 6 month post. I even took the pictures I wanted. But I haven't found the time to upload them and write the post. I still will at some point.
But let's just start with today.
Today Dylan is 6 months 3 weeks actual and 13 weeks adjusted. He looks and behaves like a (small) 13-weeker.
Dad and I both heard our first real laugh this week. He laughed for daddy first, but I got mine a couple of a days ago. What a sweet sound!
Dylan is still eating the same amount. He's extremely consistent! It's just 19 ounces +/- an ounce. He's actually pretty much taking 100% breast milk right now (fortified with formula). I just tried it one day when I didn't have any formula made and he did fine. No major spitting or dribbling which was the biggest issue and he doesn't seem to be refluxing more (since his dose was increased on Wednesday).
We went almost two weeks with no doctors appointments since we are now seeing the Pediatrician every 3 weeks or so because she is so happy with his progress. We go to OT every other week.
Dylan had his 6 month Well Baby visit this week and the doctor came in with a book. I guess our hospital gives kids a book at every Well Baby appointment up until age 5 to encourage reading! Super cool! I love the book he got too. It's a high contrast book of animals. He loves looking at high contrast images (black and white).
He did not like his shots this time around. He screamed during and had a sad pitiful cry the rest of the day. We were at my sister's house and she gave him some Tylenol and magic...all better.
OT wants us to work on having Dylan bat at and grasp toys. He loves to look at them, but doesn't show much interest in touching them. If I put a toy in his hand he will hold on to it and sometimes shake it.
Dylan is also "talking" which is so much fun. His favorite "word" is "goo." Sometimes we get a good little dialogue going.
We successfully made it through flu season which is awesome. We're taking Dylan out more now and letting him meet people that have been dying to meet them. So far he's given all of them smiles as a treat : ).
I go back to work in a week which seems crazy! It'll be weird teaching students that I only knew for 3 weeks. But it'll only be 5 1/2 weeks until summer, so I can handle it. Dylan will be in excellent hands with his Grandparents.
We are truly lucky to be so fortunate with Dylan's health. The doctors said that he was a surprise for a 25-weeker before we left the hospital, but as I connect more with the preemie community, I see even more how great Dylan is doing. His lungs are weaker than most babies (although you would never know it) and he's smaller than almost all babies his adjusted age but other than that he's perfectly healthy! And a good sleeper and all around just great baby : ).
