10 pounds!

Dylan is 4 days away from being 6 months old and he is 11 weeks adjusted.

As of this morning, he hit 10 pounds! That puts him in the 3rd percentile among all babies (WHO criteria) and the 25th for babies of very low birth weight. His ped is so pleased, we don't have to go back for three weeks! We've gone weekly since escaping the NICU.

Dylan's percentiles are even better for height and weight, about 19 and 49 respectively (and that's with the WHO criteria!).

I even had to move his car seat headrest and straps to the next level today!

He seems to like the 24 calorie food he's getting. His new daily record is 21.8 ounces and he's hitting 20 frequently. He still eats about 10 times a day and slew still don't let him sleep through the night. But most times he wakes up on his own.

I never knew how nice it would be to see real tears because he's hungry and then see him gobble down his milk!

I almost feel bad telling people this, but so far we have an extremely happy, easy baby. I think the longest crying stretch has maybe been 15 minutes and I've only heard the inconsolable type cry a couple of times. He does get fussy in the evenings, but it's not a big deal.

He'll lay in his crib or swing and look at his mobile quite contentedly.

I feel like we deserve an "easy baby" and hope I'm not mushing the future.

He's rolling front to back all the time now. Both to the right and left. He's also holding himself up on his elbows for a lot longer.

He has yet to reach for an object...I'm on the lookout.

Daddy swears he said "hi" to him the other day and now "hi" is just about the only word daddy says to Dylan because he wants him to say it again! :)

Dylan loves to play around with his tongue and tries to mimic what I do with my tongue which is really cool! He also loves to have his face touched - makes him smile every time! It's so much fun to actually interact with him :).

I'm planning a "look how far Dylan has come" post for 6 months, so check back in a few days for more.

  4. He's such a handsome boy! I love the second to last picture. I have to tell you that your story has given me so much hope and faith for the future. We're facing a week stay in the NICU followed by 8-12 weeks in the hospital when our baby is born. Being able to follow along with your story, and now seeing Dylan at home, happy, healthy and growing, gives me so much hope. So thank you for sharing!

  7. I love all the milestones!
I too am so very grateful for a very easy and happy baby. The times he is fussy and crying, are quite understandable (like the last 2 days he's had a very high fever).
So great that Dylan is at home and seems to be loving it!!
